The church of Madonna dell'Orto, built in the 14th century by the Umiliati congregation, contains a statue of the Virgin considered miraculous. In the 19th century, the decaying building was sold to the army who made it a warehouse of straw and wine. In 1864, the restoration work was resumed and completed in 1869. Since 1931, the parish has been entrusted to the fathers of the Congregation of San Giuseppe (Giuseppini Fathers).
According to tradition, the church of San Marcuola was first built on the island of Lemeneo between the 9th and 10th centuries and then destroyed by fire following an earthquake. The present church was built in the 12th century, thanks to contributions from the Memmo family, owners of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, and the Lupanizza family. The present structure owes much to a reconstruction in baroque style between 1730 and 1766 according to the plans of Antonio Gaspari.
The first church of San Geremia was built between the 7th and 10th centuries and then rebuilt several times. The first reconstruction took place during the reign of Doge Sebastian Ziani (1172-1178). A plaque, which still exists today, embedded near the main door indicates 1292 as the year of the church's consecration. The present building dates from 1753, designed by Carlo Corbellini, and the façade is from 1861. The brick bell tower (probably from the 11th century) has two narrow Romanesque mullioned windows at its base.
The Scuola Canton in Venice was built between 1531 and 1532, with parts dating from 1672 (ark), and 1736. This Baroque stone building still serves as a synagogue.
