This church in the city centre of Limerick was built in 1942, as an abbey of the Augustinian order, which had been in the county since the 17th century. Several stained glass windows can be found in the church depicting the life of St. Augustine.
St Mary's Cathedral, founded in 1168, is the cathedral of the Church of Ireland in Limerick. The last King of Munster, Domnall Mór Ua Briain (1168-1194), is believed to have founded the present cathedral on the site of his palace on King's Island in 1168. The tower of St. Mary's Cathedral was added in the 14th century.
St John's Cathedral is Limerick's Catholic cathedral, built in 1861 and designed by architect Philip Charles Hardwick. The building has the tallest tower in Ireland, at 94m. The chapel it replaced was founded in 1753.
St. Flannan's Cathedral is the Anglican cathedral of Killaloe. When Domnall Mor O'Brien, the last King of Munster, defeated the Anglo-Normans in 1185, he built the first cathedral dedicated to St Flannan, which was completed after his death in 1225. It was destroyed and rebuilt in the 14th century; all that remains of the first building is the Romanesque arch and the baptismal font decorated with a carved arabesque.
