St. Boris and St. Gleb Cathedral is the Latvian Orthodox Cathedral in Daugavpils and the largest Orthodox church in Latvia. Built between 1904 and 1905, the Russian Revival-style church was originally intended for use by the local garrison.
The Martin Luther Cathedral is the Evangelical Lutheran Cathedral in Daugavpils. It was built in 1892-93 from red bricks in the neo-gothic style according to the design of the architect Wilhelm Neumann. At the end of June 1941, during the Wehrmacht attack, the retreating Red Army set fire to the church. The spire of the church tower, the window frames and the wooden interior burned down. After the war, the church became a depot, a repair factory and then a sports school. The restoration of the church was undertaken between 1990 and 2005.
One of the landmarks of Daugavpils, this baroque style, twin-towered church celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005. This church miraculously was able to survive the Second World War. Every year in August, pilgrims make their way to this church on their way to Aglona as part of the celebration of the Ascension of the Virgin Mary.
The Kadish synagogue in Daugavpils is an Ashkenazi synagogue dating from the 1870s. This Neo-Classical brick building is still used as a synagogue.
