About this building
The Church of Saint-Aubin-et-Saint-Agip is located in Saint-Aubin-d'Ecrosville, in Normandy. It combines the late Gothic style with the more dominant Renaissance style. The facade, nave and the aisles date from the sixteenth century , while the choir and the sacristy date from the eighteenth century.
The beautiful western facade is remarkable due to its abundant decor. The facade ends with a gallery that is pierced by four sided bays, and a bay with diamond-shaped niches that display busts.
The church has a nave of four bays that is flanked by two aisles. It is extended by a square choir with chevet sides, with walls of Vernon stone and flint. A brick sacristy is built against the choir. A square bell tower, surmounted by a tall octagonal spire, dominates the ensemble at the north-west corner of the building. It is covered with flat tiles and slates. The lower south side is adorned with two Renaissance style bays that frame a small semicircular Doric style portal, decorated with several niches and sundials.
Inside, the choir was decorated in the18th century fashion: there is a high altar and an altarpiece, as well as the statues of Saint Eloi and Saint Aubin, and paintings of the 17th and 18th centuries and a 12th century tomb effigy of Richard d'Harcourt.
