Laase Church

The church in Qualitz is first mentioned in 1233. From 1873 to 1874 the church was extensively restored and received a four-storey neo-Gothic tower with two new bells. The two bells were replaced by two steel bells in 1927.

This early gothic church with fieldstone and brick masonry was first documented in 1264. The church was rebuilt in the first half of the 18th century, when the nave was covered with a mansard roof. The wooden barrel vaulting installed at that time was renewed during a restoration in 1895 together with the northern sacristy. The altarpiece is a work from 1726 and shows a painting with Christ on the Mount of Olives.

Rühn Monastery is a former Benedictine monastery founded in the 13th century. It became a Protestant convent for ladies from 1567 to 1756. The monastery was destroyed during the Thirty Years' War, but it was rebuilt and reintroduced to its function. In the 19th century, the monastery area became the private property of several noble families of Mecklenburg. After the Second World War, it was used as a shelter for war refugees, settlers and orphans. From 1950, a Jugendwerkhof (JWH) was established there, which was dissolved in 1991 and the buildings remained empty for almost 15 years. The monastery is now owned by an association.
