The Holy Trinity is the Orthodox Cathedral of Pleven. Built from 1893 to 1912, the iconostasis was realized in 1899, designed by Danail Nestorov of the village of Galichnik. The church was not painted until the 1940s.
St George the Conqueror is an Orthodox chapel-mausoleum designed by the architect Pencho Koichev, completed in 1907. It was built in memory of the Orthodox soldiers who died during the siege of Pleven in 1877 - 1878. The remains of many soldiers are buried in the crypt of the chapel. The iconostasis and icons are works of eminent artists, Ivan Murkvichka and Anton Mitov.
Although less well known than the Rila Monastery or the Bachkovo Monastery, the Troyan Monastery is a popular destination for religious tourism in the Balkans. The monastery was built at the turn of the 16th to 17th century and houses one of the most treasured icons of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church: the Three-Handed Virgin.
