Chiesa di San Stae

The church of Santa Maria Mater Domini was, according to the chronicles, built in 960 and attributed from the beginning to the adjacent monastery of Santa Cristina. Rebuilt twice after fires in 1105 and 1149, it retained its Venetian-Byzantine style until it was rebuilt in 1503. The church now displays a Renaissance style.

The church of Santa Maria Maddalena, usually called La Maddalena, was built between 1763 and 1790 on an old medieval church. The new neoclassical church was built on a circular plan, according to the design of Tommaso Temanza. The work was completed in 1790 under the direction of Giannantonio Selva. In 1888 the bell tower, which was already unsafe, was pulled down.

According to tradition, the church of San Marcuola was first built on the island of Lemeneo between the 9th and 10th centuries and then destroyed by fire following an earthquake. The present church was built in the 12th century, thanks to contributions from the Memmo family, owners of the island of San Giorgio Maggiore, and the Lupanizza family. The present structure owes much to a reconstruction in baroque style between 1730 and 1766 according to the plans of Antonio Gaspari.
