The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, dating from the 13th century, is a three-aisled basilica remarkable for its Southern Gothic portal, its sculptures by Master Paul of Levoča. The neo-Gothic tower from the end of the 19th century (1893) is the highest church tower in Slovakia with its height of 87 m.

The construction of the foundations began on August 2, 1932, and on October 2 of the same year, the foundation stone was consecrated. performed by Br. Bishop Vladimir Pavel Cobrda. For a while, the construction was interrupted due to lack of funds. These were collected by willing churches (Kobza, M. Strauch, M. Bendik) throughout Slovakia. The total cost of the construction was 86309 CZK. The construction was carried out by the builder Karol Klein from Spisska Nova Ves. (His house was purchased in 1963 for the rectory building on Hviezdoslavova street in Spisska Nova Ves)
