Nuns' Skete Church

The Nun's Skete Church is an 18th-century chapel founded by Lady Smaranda, the wife of a Prince of Wallachia and Moldavia. The "sketes", were monastic communities living in semi-isolation in Eastern European countries.

About this building

The church was part of a bigger complex and it was surrounded by cells. Like many other noble buildings of that time, it has a ship shape and an open portico with arches.

The church was moved 245 metres east, standing now behind the SRI headquarters. Some secret restoration works took place during Ceausescu's dictatorship.

It listed as a historic monument by Romania's Ministry of Culture and Religious Affairs.
