Painted Mosque of Tetovo

The Painted Mosque of Tetovo is an Ottoman mosque built in 1438, and unlike most mosques of that time, it was not financed by a local dignitary, but by two sisters of Tetovo, whose graves are in the Türbe (tomb) in the adjoining garden. It was rebuilt in 1833 by Abdurrahman Pasha. The monument owes its name to the countless painted panels that cover the facades. The panels were completely restored between 2010 and 2011.
