Panagia tis Asinou

Panagia tis Asinou is one of the painted churches in the Troodos region of Cyprus. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985.

About this building

The church dates from the 12th century and it is dedicated to the Virgin of ‘Phorbia’. It is nestled in a mountainous area not far from the village of Nikitari. As many other painted churches in the Troodos  region, it is a single-nave church with a pitched timber roof.

It was originally surrounded by the buildings of a monastery, of which, unfortunately, nothing has survived.
