Paphos Cami-i Kebir Mosque

The Cami-i Kebir Mosque (or also known as the Great Mosque, Ayia Sophia Mosque of Paphos or Mosque of Mehmet Bey Ebubekir) is located in the Moutallos district in the north of the city.

About this building

Originally a Christian church, this structure was converted into a mosque after the Ottoman takeover (1592-93). The minaret was originally built in the 19th century. Lightning strikes caused damage to the overall structure in the 1880s. The minaret had to be completely demolished and was rebuilt in 1900.

Paphos Mescit

A further mosque is the Kato (Lower) Paphos Mescit. A mosque had already stood on the same site, but it collapsed in 1908. It was not until 1927 that a new, small Muslim place of worship was built at the request of the Muslim population in Kato Paphos.

Trimithousa Hacı Mustafa Ağa Mosque

The Hacı Mustafa Ağa Mosque is located in the western area of the original settlement area. Not much is known about the history of the building. However, it is said that a mosque existed in the village as early as 1883. Due to the construction method, the current building is likely to be a new construction from the 20th century. In 2005, the entire building was renovated.
