Ruined Cathedral of Episkopi

The church of Saint John (Agios Ioannis) in Episkopi was built in the 13th century on the foundations of an earlier temple.

About this building

After the conquest of the island by the Ottomans, the church became a cathedral and the seat of the diocese of Avlopotamos, giving the village the name it has today (Episkopi means ‘diocese’).
