Şakirin Mosque
Şakirin Mosque is a modern building that opened in 2009. It is known for being the first mosque whose interior design was conceived by a woman, Zeynep Fadillioglu.
About this building
The mosque bears the name of the Şakir family, whose foundation provided the funding for its construction. The exterior consists of a metal semi-sphere with four glass-covered openings, designed by architect Hüsrev Tayla. It has has two minarets fitted with an aluminium composite dome each. The interior is characterised by its brightness and decorative motifs from Seljuk art. Art historian and interior designer Zeynep Fadillioglu led the interior design of the mosque.
