Notre-Dame de Scourmont is a Trappist abbey built in the second half of the 19th century. The priory was founded in 1850 and elevated to the rank of abbey in 1871. In 1863, a brewery was established in the abbey and in 1876, the Trappist monks began to produce hard cheese from the milk from their farm.
Dating from the 12th century, the building was rebuilt in its entirety during the first half of the 17th century, the choir and the nave around 1620-30, according to a scientific measurement and dating campaign undertaken in 1978.
During the 16th and 17th centuries, the church, defended by a keep and two imposing towers, was the refuge of the villagers, harassed and pillaged by passing regiments.
The Church of Our Lady of Plomion is a fortified church located in Thiérache du Centre, whose foundations date from the 12th-13th centuries. It is located at the heart of the line of defence of the Kingdom of France, marked by the wars of religion.
