About this building

According to sources, the mosque that is visible today is an Ottoman-era building that has been repeatedly renovated over the years. Whether a predecessor building existed is not clear from the sources. The first known major repairs took place around 1887. In the middle of the 20th century, large cracks appeared in the masonry and problems with the roof. As a result, the mosque was extensively renovated and safety measures were taken in the form of supporting pillars in the interior and exterior. According to Richard Patrick, the mosque was damaged in connection with the 1964 intercommunal riots. This damage was repaired on behalf of the Republic of Cyprus a short time later.Further maintenance work appears to have been carried out in recent years.Sanitary facilities are available in a small outbuilding.
