Sint Joris Church
The Sint Joriskerk in Britswert is built from yellow Friesian bricks. In the church, which was formerly dedicated to Saint Nicholas, there are several gravestones, such as the author of the Schotanus atlas Christianus Schotanus (1671).
About this building
The mountaintop village lies just to the north-west of the famous Wieuwert (well-known because of the mummies found there). This Romanesque church is built from yellow Frisian bricks dedicated to Saint George. In 1514 the church was destroyed by fire. The entrance is decorated with a memorial stone by Van Aylva and Bosma. In the tower hung a clock, made in 1534 by Geert van Wou Jr. Now there is a clock from 1949.
