St John the Apostle and Evangelist Church, Zakopane

The St John the Apostle and Evangelist Church is an 18th-century place of worship built in the typical style of the churches in the Małopolska province in southern Poland. It was originally built in 1719 in Zakrzów but, after falling into disuse, it was moved to its present location in Zakopane.

About this building

When the church was installed in Zakopane, three new wooden Baroque altars were created to replace those that had been destroyed in Zakrzów. The interior is decorated with late-baroque polychrome representing, among others, the figures of St Anne and St John the Baptist. The church also houses a collection of sacred art from the highlands, which includes shrines and paintings on glass, wooden figures of the Apostles, votive offerings and an image of Christ the King.

Chapel of Jaszczurówka

The chapel of Jaszczurówka began to be built in 1904 and was consecrated in 1907. The chapel is a typical example of the Zakopane style. Between 1963 and 1975, the building had several repairs. But as the chapel deteriorated more and more, a major renovation was carried out from 1977 until 1981. The official owner of the object is the National Park of the Tatras, on whose territory there is the Chapel.
