Simon Jenkins, when chairman of the national trust, wrote 'Thaxted is the queen of Essex and her crown is the church'. Thaxted church is one of the grandest in the county of Essex, 183 feet long and 87 feet wide.

St Peter and St Pauls church is located in Bardfield Saling, a small rural Essex village about 7 miles north-west of Braintree.
St Mary's church is located in Bartlow, a village in Cambridgeshire about 2 miles south-east of Linton.
St Peter's Church was probably constructed in the 1100s. The medieval parish church still holds the essence of the Norman origins in the square three-stage tower, the wide, low arch that leads from the tower to the nave, and the square font.
