St Margaret Church
On top of the mound is the Sint Margarethakerk in Boksum. The church, dating from the twelfth century, has a beautiful Protestant design, with men's benches. A sandstone sarcophagus is built into the floor.
About this building
The St. Margareta church is built on top of a mound and is surrounded by a graveyard. The restoration of the church was completed in 2003 and it was opened again with an official opening on Thursday, October 23, 2003. The church is largely made of tuff and was enlarged in 1300 with brick. In the north wall there is a densely bricked basket-like entrance from around 1500 with a frame of profile stone. The tower was added from a later date, namely from 1843, when it was restored after a collapse. The oldest parts of the building date from 1661. The Van Dam company has renewed the organ, while the old greenhouse from 1675 by Jan Harmens from Berlikum has been preserved. Concerts take place in the church. During the autumn holidays there is always an exhibition in the church about the history of Boksum.
