About this building
The most striking aspect of this church is the tower, which dates from the 13th century. It was raised in 1275, and in 1840-'44 again lowered with one articulation. The original canal around the church was filled in in the 20th century.
There is now a walking path. During W.W.II, the church suffered severe damage, but it was restored in 1948. Since 2011, the tower has been one of the Landmark Towers. For this, a staircase designed by Onix adorns the tower interior. From the new rear balcony there is a view to the mudflats.
In 2011-2012, the tower was radically adapted and now offers spectacular views over the surrounding landscape. The church is owned by the Reformed Congregation Uitwierde. The organ in the church of Uitwierde comes from the church of Heveskes.
