Vallstena Church

Vallstena Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The tower and part of the nave are the oldest surviving parts of the original church, built in the 13th century. The chancel and sacristy were built between the 13th and 14th centuries. The result was an asymmetrical church, with a mixture of Romanesque and Gothic style common in Gotland.

The church has a baptismal font from the 13th century and an altarpiece from the 14th century. The church also houses some replicas of the wooden sculptures from the 14th century that are today displayed in Gotland Museum in Visby.
