Vyshhorodok Old Jewish Cemetery

The Great Synagogue in Zbarazh is an Ashkenazi synagogue from the 16th century, rebuilt in the 18th century. This Baroque synagogue has been transformed into a factory.

The exact period of the cemetery’s establishment is unknown. The earliest preserved gravestone relates to the early 20th century so it can be assumed that the cemetery emerged during that period. First, it appears on Wojskowy Instytut Geograficzny (WIG) maps of 1939.

In March 1942, 3,500 Jews were forced to live in a ghetto. The Jews from the neighbouring villages were placed into it. On August 11, 1942, about 2,500 Jews were executed when the ghetto was liquidated.
