Abdij van Berne, Heeswijk Dinther
The Abbey of Berne is a Norbertine abbey, also called the Premonstratensian abbey or the Abbey of the Witheren.
About this building
The abbey was founded in 1134 in Berne on the Maas, but was destroyed in 1579 during the Eighty Years' War. The community then spread over several parishes that already fell under their care. The abbey in Heeswijk-Dinther forms a canon together with priories in Hierden and Tilburg. The abbey community lives according to the rule of Augustine and has an active role in the liturgy, pastoral care and diaconate.
