The village of Silikou basically consists of two core settlements. The smaller settlement is located about 400m from the larger one in a south-westerly direction. In the larger part, both the mosque and the Greek Orthodox church of Agios Georgios can be found. The mosque is located on the western edge of the village.

The original stone church, dedicated to St. Michael, was built between 1150 and 1250, with a rectangular nave and an almost square choir at the right end. In 1838, the western part was demolished and then extended with a half-timbered and panelled section. In 1903, the bell tower was built on the west side. In 1946, frescoes were discovered in the choir.

The church in Silkeborg was completed in 1877, designed by Copenhagen architect H.S. Sibbern (1818-1892). During an extensive restoration in 1941-43, the interior was vaulted. The architect Harald Lønborg-Jensen (1871-1948) was responsible for this magnificent work.
