Wooden church from Hirisheni, Chisinau

The Intercession of the Virgin Mary or Assumption Church is a wooden church from the village of Hirișeni. Today it is preserved in the Village Museum in Chisinau where it can be visited along with other architectural monuments of Moldova.

About this building

The church, built in 1642, is one of the tallest wooden churches in Moldova (27 metres). It is also the oldest ecclesiastical monument in the Republic of Moldova.

Church of St. Dmitry, Chisinau

The Church of St. Dmitry (Biserica Sfântul Dumitru) is an Orthodox church built between 1890 and 1899. The church was closed and looted under the Soviet regime. The church was reopened in 1990. In 2005, a fire caused severe damage to the interior of the nave and the bell tower. The church was restored in 2016.
