In 857 the monks of the abbey of Saint-Martial de Limoges founded a monastery at Chambon-sur Voueize to protect the relics of Saint Valérie, of which the monastery of Saint-Martial only keeps the head, from Norman incursions.
The Abbey Church of Sainte-Valérie is one of the most important Romanesque churches in the Limousin with its 87 meters long and 38 meters wide transept.
The history of the monument begins when canons gather around the relics of the hermit Marien, who died in 513, located in the old Roman spa town of Evaux. The monument was an important monastery in the 9th century. The church was only attached in 1264 to the monastery of Saint-Amable de Riom.
The Church of Saint-Julien-de-Brioude is located in Saint-Julien-le-Châtel, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. The choir and apse date back to the late twelfth century, when they were part of the chapel that was attached to the local castle. This and the nave was rebuilt in the seventeenth century. The east and west facades are accessible to the public, while the south and north facades are included in the castle's private grounds. The building houses various objects and furniture that is classified or listed as a historical monument.
The present church is the former Chapel of Notre-Dame, which used to be a priory of canons regular of Saint-Augustin that the abbey of Lesterps (Charente) owned in Gouzon. It took back the name Saint-Martin when it became parish in 1828.
