Bro Church

Bro Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The place where the current church stands was already a place of worship in Pre-Christian times. It is likely that a stave church was built before the present stone church. Present day Bro Church was built during the 13th century evolving from the Romanesque style to the Gothic style.

The interior of Bro Church is one of the most richly decorated on the island. Some Romanesque friezes from the old church were incorporated into the 13th century reconstruction. The church also has a baptismal font made by sculptor Sigraf.
