Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection of Chania (Museum)

The Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Collection of Chania is a museum located since 1997 in the catholicon of the Monastery of San Salvatore. It exhibits Byzantine objects and artworks. The former monastic complex has been operating as a hotel since 2016.

About this building

The church was built in the 15th century and extended in the 16th and 17th centuries. During the Ottoman rule on the island, the church was transformed into a mosque and detached from the monastery.
