About this building
The church of Saint-André d'Olette, classified as an historic monument, is located in Olette-Evol in Occitania. The early church dates back to Romanesque times (12th century). It was then dedicated to the Blessed Virgin. It was enlarged in the 16th century, blessed by the Bishop of Elna and dedicated to Saint Andrew, in addition to the Immaculate Conception. The enlargements added two lateral naves adorned with Villefranche marble gemstones, that date from the 13th century. In the 19th century, a 17th century altarpiece was replaced by the current altar and the bell tower is rebuilt in place of an older building.
The church is composed of a three bay nave that is framed by two aisles and separated from the nave by arches. The nave is extended by a square choir, with a flat bedside. A sacristy is leaned to the north of the nave while to the south, a semicircular apse chapel closes the aisle. A bell tower rises south of the west facade. Among the furniture, many objects are classified as Historical Monuments, including several altarpieces, paintings, a statue of the Assisi Virgin (13th century) and many objects of priesthood.
