About this building

During the Ottoman rule in Crete, the church was used as a bakery and as a workshop. The church has two naves, one dedicated to Saint Catherine and the other to the patron saint of Chania, Saint John the Hermit.

Church of Saint Nicholas, Chania

Agios Nikolaos is an Orthodox church, ortinally built as a monastery church in the 14th century. During the Ottoman occupation of Crete, the church was transformed into a mosque. In 1928, it was transformed again into a church. It is the only church in Greece with both a bell tower and a minaret.
