De Sint-Pieterskerk

The Sint-Pieterskerk and the rural churchyard of Langdorp

About this building

Since the closure in 1967, virtually nothing has changed at the funerary site. In addition to a few tomb monuments of local notables, such as the Van den Eynde family, the cemetery contains mainly grave signs of the 'ordinary man'.

The tombs are oriented to the east, the direction of the main entrance of the cemetery and the ancient village center. The choir (13th century) and the western tower (14th century) were built in local iron sandstone. The fake vessal was built in brick around 1771-1775.

On 6 July 1779 the notarial agreement was concluded with Guillaume Robustelly for the construction of an organ, to be delivered within two years and three months. Joiner A. van Genechten from Meerhout took care of the execution of the doksaal and the organ cabinet and P. J. d'Huyvetter worked on the decorative sculpture. In July 1781 the organ was completed.
