The Aa Church

The light that shines through the large windows of this high rising church emphasises the gothic structure inside.

About this building

The walls of the chancel extend outside through the pressure of the vaults, where the pointed arch windows are simpler than the larger windows of the transept.

The church has been badly damaged many times. For example, in 1710 the tower collapsed for the two times in quick succession. This was the subject of a story written in 1985 by Belcampo, with young Sebastian Bach in the lead.

The church now has a business and cultural function. Worship services are no longer held there and instead The Special Venues Foundation Groningen operates the church for concerts, theater, exhibitions, parties, conferences and meetings. You can also go there as a visitor, or organise an event yourself.
