Dryanovo Monastery

The Dryanovo Monastery is located in the valley of Andaka River, approximately 4km away from the town of Dryanovo. It was built to house the relics of St Michael in the 13th century. It played an important role during the April Uprising of the 19th century.

About this building

Although the origins of the monastery can be traced back to the 13th century, the present location and buildings date back to the 19th century. Several battles took place at this site during the April Uprising (1876) which marked the end of the Ottoman Empire in the country. Visitors can see some relics of the April Uprising in the monastery museum.
