Ensemble abbatial Saint-Martin, Laon
This imposing abbey of Laon was built at the beginning of the 12th century, and Saint Norbert installed 12 canons regular of Prémontré. Basing its wealth notably on the exploitation of the vineyards of the upper town, this abbey was very influential during the medieval period.
About this building
Today, the abbey's right-of-way is home to the Laon hospital and there is a media library in the cloister. The church has become a parish church and the whole ensemble retains its original appearance, with the exception of a few conversions to adapt to the new use of the building.
