Begijnhofkapel
Haarlem, NL
Brick church building, right across from the Walloon Church . The building was built in 1915 as a theatre hall and was part of a Catholic association building, the client was the St. Josephs-Gezellen-Vereeniging. In 1938 the Reformed Church in Hersteld Verband took over the building, renovation of the interior and exterior for use as a church hall (incl. relocation of the entrance) under the leadership of architect Herman van de Kloot Meyburg. On 12 May 1939 it was actually put into use as a church under the name Begijnhofkapel, this name had become available in 1586 because the current Walloon Church (located across from it) was given its current name because of Protestantism, In 1946 it was again called the Dutch Reformed Church. In 1946, the Reformed Church in Restored Association (GKHV) merged with the Dutch Reformed Church, this denomination then had two church buildings close to each other ( Grote of St. Bavokerk and the Begijnhofkapel). From September 20, 1953, the Baptist Church of Haarlem held its services in the Begijnhofkapel. Since January 1, 2019, no denomination has been established in this former church building, it is now a small theater, the Baptist Church of Haarlem left the building on that date.
