Vårdö Church is a medieval stone church dating from the 16th century. Already in the 14th century, there was a wooden church on the site of the building. The stone church was probably built between 1520 and 1550. In 1784, the church was extended by about seven metres to the west, and in 1786, a sacristy was built there. The west tower of the church was built in 1805.

The church was designed by architect Eivind Moestue in a modern style and was put into service in 1958 after the previous church on the site burned down in 1944. In the meantime, the parish house had been used as a temporary church.
