The Elverum church is a large wooden cruciform church built in 1738, with a tower to the west. The church was originally designed by artillery lieutenant Nicolai Gustav Sandberg. The church has been considerably modified by the architect H. Thrap-Meyer in 1878. The original interior of the church, dating from the 18th century, was recreated during the restoration in 1937-38, after being completely modified in 1878.

Queen Etheldreda (d679) was foundress and abbess of Ely. She restored an old church and built her monastery here. After its restoration in 970 by Ethelwold it became the richest abbey in England except for Glastonbury. Etheldreda died around 680 from a tumour on the neck, reputedly as a divine punishment for wearing necklaces in her younger days; in reality it was the result of plague. Etheldreda's shrine visited by vast numbers of medieval pilgrims.

The Motorway Chapel of Hegau (officially Emmauskapelle) is located in the service area of Hegau West near Engen on the Federal Highway 81 from Stuttgart to the south. Instead of the original, too expensive dome model by the Hungarian architect Imre Makovecz, the project by the Ravensburg architect Wolf R. Bürhaus was selected in an architectural competition. The complex consists of a high cross, an inner courtyard and a parallelepiped-shaped chapel. Access to the chapel is via a narrow inner passage.

Emmaus Monastery was founded in 1347 by the Czech king and Roman emperor Charles IV (1346-1378). It was destined to become the only Benedictine monastery in the Bohemian kingdom and in the whole of Slavic Europe. During World War II, the monastery was captured by the Gestapo and the monks were sent to the Dachau concentration camp. In February 1945, it was almost destroyed by the American bombing of Prague. The modern roof with its bell towers was added in 1960. The Gothic cloister has original faded frescoes with fragments of pagan symbolism from the 14th century.

The Emperor's Mosque, built in 1462, is one of the first mosques built in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the first in Sarajevo. Throughout the history of the mosque, it has been modernized and renovated. During the Second World War and the war of the 1990s, the mosque, like many others, was damaged but was restored. It is a national monument of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
