Fröjel Church

Fröjel Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The nave, tower and chancel of this Romanesque church were built in the 13th century. The chancel was rebuilt in the 14th century in a Gothic style. Due to its strategic position on the coast, the church was protected by a defensive tower, of which some remains have survived.

The interior of the church preserves 14th-century wall paintings depicting various animal and human figures: dragons, deer, lions and gryphons, an angel and a bishop.
