Gerum Church

Gerum Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The chancel and the apse were the first parts to be erected in the 12th century. The rest of the church was completed in the 13th century. A noteworthy fact about this church is that the church tower was left unfinished.

It has a Romanesque portal and two Gothic portals decorated with sculptures. It houses a baptismal font from the 12th century. Another important historical feature of the church is that it is home to Gotland's oldest still-working bell, dating from the early 12th century.

The latest additions to the church are the altarpiece and pulpit, both dating from the 17th century, and the sacristy, built in 1835.
