About this building

The monastery was founded in 1310 by Saint Gregory the Hesychast, a Sebian monk who lived in a nearby cave. It was renovated in 1500. Most of the relics and documents treasured here were lost during the fire of 1761. The most important icons kept in the monastery are the Galactotrophousa (Virgin Mary breastfeeding Jesus) Theotokos Breastfeeding and the Theotokos Pantanassa (Queen of All).
