Grgeteg Monastery

Grgeteg Monastery was founded by Serbian Despot Vuk Grgurević in 1471. It is one of the 16 surviving Orthodox monasteries built between the 15th and 18th centuries on the Fruška Gora mountain in Serbia (also known as the Serbian Mount Athos).

About this building

Grgeteg Monastery was abandoned in the first half of the 18th century as a consequence of the migration of Serbs during the Habsburg-Ottoman War (1737-1739). The religious community returned a few decades later. The monastery church was built 1770 and extensively restored in 1898. It preserves iconostasis from 1902 by Uroš Predić.
