Heilige Willibrordus

Roman Catholic St. Willibrordus Church in Oude Pekela. Replaced an earlier barn church from 1783. Important, iconic church with a high tower. Particularly in terms of interior, with the monumental decoration and inventory from the Mengelberg studio in Utrecht, richly detailed neo-Gothic church. Typical and characteristic work in the oeuvre of N. Molenaar (1850-1930), pupil of Pierre Cuypers (1827 - 1921). Restoration 1988. Still in use as Roman Catholic parish church. This church (1895, N.Molenaar) has been restored and has (also) been given a multicultural purpose. This church is listed as a National Monument of the Netherlands.

Oude Pekela Church

With the reclamation of the peat colonies around 1600, the village of Oude Pekela was founded. Not much later, between 1683 and 1685, they built a simple hall church, financed by the city of Groningen, which also became the owner of the church.

Christelijke Gereformeerde Kerk

Enlarged in 1912, damaged by fire in 2003. In the night of 20/21 June 2003 there was a fire in the CGK. A short circuit is probably the cause. Renovation of the church building was already underway. Unfortunately, they can now start all over again. A year later, on 18 June 2004, the rebuilt and renovated church building was put back into use in a festive service. Using old photographs, the interior has been restored to its original state of construction in 1911, whereby a later renovation has also been undone. A "Johannus organ" has been placed behind an organ front purchased in Urk. This church is listed as a Municipal Monument of the Netherlands.
