Lye Church

Lye Church is one of the 92 medieval churches on the island of Gotland.

About this building

The Romanesque nave dates from the late 12th century, the church tower from the early 13th century and the Baroque chancel from the second quarter of the 14th century.

Lye Church has the largest set of medieval stained glass in Northern Europe, built in the 14th century. Besides their antiquity, the also stand our for their very well-preserved condition. 

Other interesting features include several sets of wall paintings from the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries, and the altarpiece and rood cross, both from the late 15th century.
