Church and Convent of Menino Deus
The construction of the church began in 1711 with the support of King João V. It belonged to the Order of the Franciscans. The church miraculously survived the earthquake of 1755.
About this building
The church was designed by João Antunes, one of the most important Baroque architects in Portugal. The mannerist façade was to have two towers, but the plans were never completed. The interior of the church is lavishly decorated with paintings and marble ornaments.
The former convent building now houses a childcare centre.
