Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Saramon Abbey
The Saint-Pierre-et-Saint-Paul de Saramon Abbey was founded in the 9th century. The present church is the result of interventions carried out on an 11th century building which modified its appearance.
About this building
Around 1025, it changed from a priory to an abbey. In 1315 the cloister was rebuilt, which was dismantled and dispersed after the French Revolution. In the last years of its existence, the monastic community and the abbey itself were in full decline and in 1777 its dissolution was decreed. Unfortunately, in 2023, the so-called Saint-Victor tower, attached to the central apse, collapsed, leaving it completely in ruins and also affecting the apse of the church.
