About this building
The church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste is located in Moulinet, in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. The village is perched 800 meters above sea level in the beautiful Mercantour National Park. The church was built in the twelfth century on the site of a Visigothic place of worship of the fifth century. It has a three bay nave with three bays, followed by a choir consisting of a straight span and a semicircular apse.
The building was heavily remodeled in the nineteenth century and it was at this time that the side chapels, the western wall and the sacristy are built, the bell tower rebuilt, and the interior modified: the nave, the choir and the windows were all modified to give the buildings its Romanesque form. You can admire various 18th century sacerdotal objects, and a 19th century statuette of the Virgin and Child, as well as the tombs of the Martinaud, Biau and Bouyne families from the same period.
