A primitive cathedral was built in the 5th century, then a Romanesque cathedral. In 1248, Hugues de la Tour, then bishop, began work on a new Gothic cathedral under the direction of architect Jean Deschamps. The church also underwent changes, particularly in the middle of the 14th century with the architect Pierre Juglar de Cébazat. On the projects of Viollet-le-Duc, the Romanesque façade was demolished and rebuilt with arrows in a neo-Gothic style in 1884.
The church of Saint-Pierre-des-Minimes, located in the rue des Minimes, is a large classical building with a dome built in the 17th century as a church for the convent of the Minimes. The church was extended in the 19th century by Jean Teillard. The church was successively modified, destroyed, rebuilt and finally completed between 1895 and 1897 by Teillard, who added his characteristic dome. The interior sculptures are by Henri Gourgouillon.
The church, whose construction began in the 11th century and continues into the 12th and 13th centuries, was seriously damaged by the strong earthquakes that hit the region in 1477 and 1490, and underwent major alterations in the 19th century: engineer Ratoin rebuilt a new western bell tower in 1823-1827 and Aymon Gilbert Mallay led the second restoration campaign in 1843, notably rebuilding the transept crossing tower.
The church of Saint-Eutrope is a former collegiate church built in its present form between 1858 and 1862 in the neo-Gothic style. It replaced a medieval building probably dating from the 11th century and destroyed in 1858. The building underwent a major renovation project which was completed in 2015.
