Nuis Church
A late Romanesque church building that contains many local memorials and is well connected with the community.
About this building
In this late Roman church the pulpit is decorated with symbols of the four seasons. The 12 diamond-shaped mourning boards, originally from Friesland, are striking. They are a reminder of a few members of the Frisian villain families Fockens and Van Teyens. By the end of the 18th century all noble symbols had to be removed from public buildings by order of the Batavian government. The mourning boards that had been hanging in the church of Beetsterzwaag until then were stored in the Coendersborg. Two centuries later, the signs were the property of the Nuis church trustees.
The Protestant municipality of Boerakker / Nuis / Niebert occasionally organizes its services in the church. The church also has an active local committee that organizes exhibitions and concerts in the church.
