Niezijl Church

A simple 17th century hall church with large round arch windows and a small roof turret. Both the north wall and the west wall contain an entrance under a basket arch.

About this building

The interior is remarkably cool. The pulpit is taken from Vredeman de Vries's copybooks with fluted half-columns on the corners.

Opposite is a gentleman's bank with identical corner columns. The organ stands against the east wall. The ceiling shows that it was not originally intended for this church. For the purpose of the pedal tower (organ), the flat beam ceiling was raised on site to form a barrel vault. The church of Niezijl is used for exhibitions, presentations and lectures. In addition, it is very popular as a wedding location.
